Emily Black qualifies to work as an NHS 111 call handler

The School congratulates fourth year BDS student Emily Black, who has recently qualified to work as an NHS 111 call handler. Alongside continuing with her year 4 studies and preparing for upcoming assessments, Emily has somehow found the time to complete the 111 training and has started supporting patients calling the helpline this week.

Emily said: “It has been a lot to learn in a short space of time, but I am extremely proud to be doing my small bit for a life-saving service in these unprecedented times. Last weekend, with my training complete, I was signed off to take calls specifically related to COVID-19 solo! It has definitely done wonders for my communication skills (especially as I can’t use any of those non-verbals!!) and I have met some amazing people along the way. The NHS is a wonderful organisation that we should all be incredibly proud of.

This is great work Emily, we are really proud of you!
