Bristol undergraduate appears in Channel 4 documentary

Year 4 undergraduate student Lakshmi Ranjan was selected to feature as a South Indian classical dancer in a channel 4 Documentary called the ‘Curry House Kid’ (available via catch up until 30th May 2019).

It is based on the biography of world renowned choreographer and dancer Akram Khan and was aired on the 1st May.  Her feature came as a result of her becoming a South Asian category finalist on BBC Young Dancer 2015, ranking within the top 5 in the UK.  Lakshmi was then given the opportunity to work with the biggest dance platform in the UK, Sadlers Wells Theatre, to feature in a live coaching session as a part of the Darbar Festival 2017.

With all this training attained from these amazing opportunities, she then completed her first sell out theatre performance as a soloist with a live orchestra in London raising over £800 for WaterAid from all the profits made. With all this experience behind her, she plays a delicate yet challenging role in this documentary highlighting the versatile growth and integration of Indian classical dance in the UK.

Huge congratulations Lakshmi!
