WorkingPosture. How to prevent and recover from workplace problems of sitting all day to work
A lecture for Dental Students and Staff
Wednesday 24th October 2018, 1-2pm, Chapter House Lecture Theatre
Penelope Jones is a retired Endodontist who taught at Sydney Dental School in Australia —She developed a unique program in WorkingPosture over 25 years ago, and taught this to undergraduates and graduates through the university and the Australian Dental Association to great success.
The program is unique in that it is heavily based in neuroplastic learning. There are no charts and recipes to follow on how to sit and work, rather the program uses a series of slow movements with breath and awareness to help develop an ability to find balance inside the body. Participants in Dr Jone’s WorkingPosture classes are surprised with how quickly they can change form their old habits of poor posture (that create the pain in their bodies to begin with) to better and easier working habits within a six week program. The lessons are based on The Feldenkrais Method–as featured in Norman Doiges book “How the Brain Heals”. Dr Feldenkrais is one of the most innovative teachers of n neuroplastic learning for neurologic dysfunction and damage. His work is now used for athletes who want better performance and for prevention of workplace injury.
In her lecture, Dr Jones will explain how her program works and give some concrete examples of how to can sit better to prevent and reduce workplace body discomfort.
All Bristol Dental Students and Staff are welcome.
